A joint EBRD-UNCITRAL Initiative on Enhancing Public Procurement Regulation in CIS Countries and Mongolia was launched at a roundtable event during the EBRD Annual Meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan on 19 May 2011. The roundtable was attended by representatives from 8 countries in the region and various international organisations, law firms and other agencies.
The technical cooperation programme will be conducted over a 3 year period with the aim of supporting the reform efforts of governments in the region and to improve implementation of the laws and the development of related institutions. The revised UNCITRAL Model Law on Public Procurment (this is a link to the draft law, the final version will be adopted in June 2011) provides a new international standard for public procurement regulation.
