EBRD UNCITRAL Initiative attended WTO GPA Symposium in Geneva 16-18 September 2015 PRINT E-mail


[13/10/2015] Olivier Moreau, Eriks Mezalis, Dorina Harcenco, Jonathan Denison Cross, Karen Brutyan and Astghik Solomonyan took a mission to Geneva 14-18 September 2015 to participate in the WTO GPA Symposium, GPA Workshop and GPA Committee plurilateral meeting.

The GPA Symposium aimed to raise awareness of the significance of the GPA in today’s international economy. It addressed policy-related issues on government procurement, both generally and as they relate to trade, governance and development. Its purpose is to inform participants of WTO activities in this area as well as to provide a forum for both trade and procurement experts to exchange information on trade-related activities and initiatives. Particular attention was given to the revised GPA. At the Symposium Karen Brutyan gave a presentation on accession to the GPA on the case of Armenia.

At the WTO GPA Workshop, Eriks Mezalis gave a presentation on the reform of eProcurement systems in the context of GPA obligations (experience of Armenia). Dorina Harcenco gave a presentation on the accession to the GPA on the case of Moldova.

EBRD experts were also present at the WTO GPA Committee meeting. Presentations and discussions were useful and substantial. Cooperation with the EBRD for providing technical assistance was two times signalled by the GPA Secretariat as paramount.

The aim of the meetings was to find out recent public procurement related developments in respective countries as well as to discuss the potential cooperation opportunities.
